How important is the language requirement, really?

Language skills are very important; however, generally speaking, you do not have to be fluent in reading and writing. It is, however, expected that you are proficient in speaking and understanding, at a minimum. Most of the employers who hire interns through our program are looking for students with a high proficiency in Asian languages. During the interview, your language skills will be tested so that we may make the best recommendations to our partner organizations.

If you are in doubt about your language skills, apply anyway. Usually, students who are really nervous about their language skills end up scoring above average during the language skills evaluation during their interview. If your language skills are not at a “fluent” level, this internship opportunity will be a great way to give you practice and improve your skills.
